Ergonomics and Human Factors

What are Ergonomics and Human Factors?

Ergonomics and Human Factors are concerned with the ‘fit’ between the user, equipment and their environments. It takes account of the user’s capabilities and limitations in seeking to ensure that working tasks, functions, information and the environment suit each user, combining the psychology, physical aspects and design of all work systems and work environments.

Ergonomists consider the job tasks, work processes, systems, environmental factors, interaction with equipment, interfaces and colleagues as well as the individual(s).  An ergonomist adopts a holistic approach to their assessments, taking into account not only the physiological factors but also the psychological and social factors.  The information gathered is used to quantify the demands on the worker.  Interventions aim to reduce hazardous activities, improve the well-being of the worker, their productivity and that of the work place as a whole.

Take the pain out of work

Investment in the health of your work force can generate huge cost savings.  As well as the direct cost benefits of preventing absence from work, there are many hidden savings, such as increased productivity, preventing overtime to cover absence and reduced insurance premiums.

We ensure you comply with your legal obligations to provide a duty of care to your workforce.  However, let us look into your business and we will do much more than compliance.  We will identify all beneficial services for you, helping you to visualise the potential for savings.  This will help you to decide which options suit you best.

The aim of our service is to increase the health and safety of your work force and improve productivity.  We prevent the occurrence of repetitive strain disorders and work related musculoskeletal injury through maximising the abilities of the work force through bespoke training, reorganisation and adaptations to the environment and equipment.  During our assessments we gather a wealth of information relating to job tasks, existing processes, systems and all equipment.  The information gathered is used to quantify the demands on the worker.  Interventions aim to reduce hazardous activities, improve the well-being of the worker, their productivity and that of the work place as a whole.  As specialist physiotherapists and ergonomists this is where our expertise lies.

What services we offer

We have a wealth of experience in a huge variety of settings.  We have provided solutions for staff in schools, transport and delivery drivers as well as laboratories, production and industrial processes.  From individual DSE assessments, both in person and remotely, office redesign or review and modification of processes, we can offer all of these on a global scale. Our solutions are often focused on training as we know that incorrect use of even the most sophisticated equipment will lead to injury.  As a result we often do not need to make costly environmental changes.  We will always provide a range of solutions, from short to long term, so that you can determine which options suit you best and can be worked into your business plan.

In all our services we pride ourselves on the way we educate the people we work with.  We make sure they really understand the cause of their problems and how to resolve them.  This provides the benefit of real change.
